After a short stop at the adjacent Stadio dei Marmi, the teams were able to access the ring of the Olimpico, where they marched at a rate of 120 steps per minute. Immediately after Greece, which had the honor of being the first to parade as the ancient mother of the Olympics, the other nations followed one another in alphabetical order, according to the Italian version of their names.

At one point in the parade, the Republic of China team appeared, but the sign in front of them clearly read "Formosa," as the delegation from Taiwan had been prohibited from marching with the Republic of China sign. As this delegation passed the authorities' gallery, the official marching immediately behind the denomination sign unfurled and showed a large white sheet of paper with the words, by hand, "UNDER PROTEST" written on it. He held the sign up for about 150 meters, before folding it down and putting it back in his pocket. The Italian delegation, with its blue jackets and white trousers as well as hats, closed the parade.
