il progetto di MARZIA BOAGLIO: the project by MARZIA BOAGLIO:

Games of textures, effects, surfaces. The goal was a cut with the past, previous editions of the Games, they had medals that did not “talk” with the rest of the materials, there was no direct connection with the look. Precisely for this reason, proud of having such a beautiful and particular look of the games, I liked the idea of being able to include it in the medal. The aim was then to create reliefs, satin parts and lacquered inserts so as to make the medal even more three-dimensional. On the back the lacquered pictogram and finally the hook for the ribbon once again took up the design of an arch, at the base of the look, engraved with the two Xs of the XX Olympic Games in Turin 2006.

il progetto di SILVIO CERRATO: the project by SILVIO CERRATO

The intention was to give an Italian and Italian style also through medals... it would have been nice to have the first multicolored medals ... so the look of the games inspired me with its colors... I thought it would be nice to have them made by Murano artisans, so that the athletes could take home a "small work of Italian art." Then for reasons of time and I imagine also of costs they made/colored them with enamels. Furthermore, another characteristic that distinguished it is the shape which refers more to a jewel than to a medal.
il progetto (vincente) di DARIO QUATRINI: the (successful) project by DARIO QUATRINI:

The design uses images, ideas, and models linked to the history and Italian tradition of the forms and artifacts: rings, ancient coins, jewelry. The main shape is that of a circle with empty space in the center, a solution consistent with the image of Turin 2006, which finds its own representation in the square, a typical symbol of Italy.

On the obverse, the graphic elements of the Games. On the reverse, the pictogram of the sports discipline in which the medal was won.The 2006 Olympic Winter Games medal is round like the Olympic rings or a symbolic victory ring and, with its open space at its centre, it reveals the place where the heart beats, the symbol of life itself. To highlight the three-dimensional characteristics of the medal, its surface has been carefully made using full and empty spaces, with shiny and satiny textures. The medal is only complete, however, when it is hanging geometrically from the athlete’s neck, lying on its chest, circling.
