SERVIZI SANITARI - HEALTCARE SERVICES

Un anno prima dell'inizio dei Giochi, il Prof. Luigi Gedda, Direttore dell'Istituto G. Mendel e Presidente del Centro Sportivo Italiano, venne nominato Presidente del Comitato Medico-Scientifico dei Giochi della XVII Olimpiade, un comitato che si sarebbe dovuto occupare dell'igiene e dell'assistenza sanitaria agli atleti, ai dirigenti ed al pubblico, otre che stabilire una completa valutazione scientifica degli atleti che avrebbero preso parte ai Giochi, mediante la compilazione o rilevazione di una scheda bio-psichica basale e promuovere un simposio di medici sportivi tra quelli delle singole squadre partecipanti ai Giochi.

A year before the start of the Games, Prof. Luigi Gedda, Director of the G. Mendel Institute and President of the Italian Sports Centre, was appointed President of the Medical-Scientific Committee of the Games of the XVII Olympiad, a committee that was to be responsible for hygiene and health care for athletes, managers and the public, while establishing a complete scientific evaluation of the athletes who would take part in the Games, by compiling or collecting a baseline bio-psychic sheet and promoting a symposium of sports doctors among those of the individual teams participating in the Games.

Una particolare attenzione fu data alla necessità di ottenere la collaborazione, oltre che di enti italiani, quali la Croce Rossa, l'Ufficio di Igiene, ecc., anche dei Comitati Olimpici Nazionali, dei rispettivi servizi sanitari e dei singoli medici al seguito delle rappresentative nazionali.

Particular attention was given to the need to obtain the collaboration not only of Italian bodies, such as the Red Cross, the Hygiene Office, etc., but also of the National Olympic Committees, their respective health services, and individual doctors following national representatives.

Al termine dei Giochi Olimpici, il Comitato Medico Scientifico per i Giochi della XVII Olimiade, organizzò un pranzo per ringraziare i medici che, durante i Giochi, avevano collaborato alla sicurezza della salute degli atleti e degli spettatori nei tanti campi di gara.

At the end of the Olympic Games, the Scientific Medical Committee for the Games of the XVII Olymiad organized a lunch to thank the doctors who, during the Games, had collaborated in the health safety of athletes and spectators on the many competition fields.
