TORCIA OLIMPICA

For the choice of the Olympic Torch, the organizers did not shine with originality and for the Torch model they opted for the one already used in London 1948, in Melbourne and Stockholm in 1956, designed by Ralph Lavers and built by EMI Factories Ltd, High Dury Alloys Ltd, modified only in the lettering on the side of the brazier "Cortina 1956 - VIIth Olympic Winter Games".

The torch was made of an aluminum alloy die-cast with an internal magnesium brazier to withstand the high temperatures of the flame. It was fed with interchangeable wicks, soaked in plant resins, which allowed for a range of 15 minutes. The time required to travel the one-kilometer stretch on flat sections and 500-700 meters on uphill sections was calculated at 5 minutes. Height is 47 centimeters
