PISTA COL DRUSCIE' - COL DRUSCIE' TRACK

Both routes were set on the Col Druscié track «A», right at the foot of the Tofana and immediately above Cortina. This area was also already well known for the numerous races it organized in the past. However, significant rock excavations were necessary to significantly widen the route. Furthermore, an abundant tape of clods of grass was carried out during the two summer seasons. It is estimated that approximately 1,700 m3 of rock was removed by blasting as many as 1,200 mines, as well as 500 m3 of earth by pickaxe fury. In addition, about 120 trees were cut down. An underground telephone cable pipeline was laid along the entire route, approximately 650 metres long. All this was necessary to be able to set up two parallel slalom courses, which would correspond to Olympic needs. This area of racing was also clearly visible from Cortina, so much so that competitors could also be seen with the naked eye. The overall elevation gain available was approximately 250 meters for men and 176 for women. The finish line was at an altitude of 1,500 metres, common for the two events. Special prefabricated stands for spectators were installed around the finish line and almost to the top of both sides of the courses, as well as all the equipment needed to carry out the two competitions.
