Neve e Gliz sono nati da una palla di neve e un cubetto di ghiaccio. Eppure sono affettuosi e caldi, animati da una passione tutta italiana. Lei ha forme arrotondate, ispirate alla neve e vestita di rosso; lui veste di blu, con linee più squadrate, più tipiche del ghiaccio. Ed entrambi sorridono con entusiasmo, trasmettendo gioia, positività e solarità. Ma soprattutto sono due elementi naturali senza i quali non ci sarebbero i Giochi invernali: la neve e il ghiaccio.
Neve & Gliz were born from a snowball and an ice cube. Yet they are affectionate and warm, animated by an all-Italian passion. She has rounded shapes, inspired by snow and dressed in red; he dresses in blue, with squarer lines, more typical of ice. And they both smile enthusiastically, conveying joy, positivity and sunshine. But above all, they are two natural elements without which there would be no Winter Games: snow and ice.
Neve: un nome sintetico, semplice, dal suono morbido ed elegante e molto facile da memorizzare. Neve richiama immediatamente il legame della mascotte con uno dei due elementi naturali fondamentali per la pratica degli sport invernali, ed è l'amica ideale con cui giocare all'insegna del rispetto, della lealtà e dell'amicizia, alcune delle più alte espressioni dello spirito olimpico.
Gliz: un nome le cui caratteristiche sono complementari a Neve. Esprime energia, passione, divertimento innovazione. Gliz richiama alla mente i nomi dei supereroi dei fumetti, dei cartoni animati o dei giochi per bambini. Gliz ha un suono fresco, compatto e tagliente: caratteristica ideale per sintetizzare in una sola parola le forme squadrate della mascotte.
Neve: A synthetic, simple name, with a soft and elegant sound and very easy to memorize. Neve immediately recalls the mascot's connection to one of the two natural elements fundamental to the practice of winter sports, and is the ideal friend to play with in the spirit of respect, loyalty and friendship, some of the highest expressions of the Olympic spirit.
Gliz: a name whose characteristics complement Neve. It expresses energy, passion, fun innovation. Gliz brings to mind the names of superheroes from comics, cartoons, or children's games. Gliz has a fresh, compact and sharp sound: an ideal feature for synthesizing the mascot's square shapes in a single word.
Le due mascotte sono state scelte dalla giuria del TOROC nel settembre del 2003 tra le 5 candidature finaliste selezionate nella prima fase del concorso internazionale, svoltasi a maggio del 2003.
The two mascots were chosen by the TOROC jury in September 2003 from among the 5 finalist nominations selected in the first phase of the international competition, held in May 2003.
La mascotte dei IX Giochi Paralimpici Invernali di Torino 2006 si chiama, anch'essa disegnata dal designer portoghese Pedro Albuquerque, lo stesso autore delle mascotte olimpiche Neve e Gliz, si chiama Aster ed ha la forma, il colore e la struttura di un cristallo di neve (o fiocco di neve). Il nome deriva dal latino e significa stella, simbolo di luminosità e unicità e, secondo l'ideatore, rappresenta l'unicità di ogni atleta paralimpico e il loro stile di vita, proprio come ogni fiocco di neve è diverso dall'altro.
The mascot of the IX Paralympic Winter Games of Turin 2006 is called, also designed by the Portuguese designer Pedro Albuquerque, the same author of the Olympic mascots Neve and Gliz, his name is Aster and has the shape, color and structure of a snow crystal (or snowflake). The name comes from the Latin and means star, symbol of brightness and uniqueness and, according to the creator, represents the uniqueness of each Paralympic athlete and their lifestyle, just as each snowflake is different from the next.
