Le staffette
STAFFETTA 4 x 100 FEMMINILE - RELAY 4 x 100 WOMEN
L'intera squadra statunitense era rappresentata dai corridori della Tennessee State University, soprannominati i Tigerbelles.

The entire U.S. team was represented by runners from Tennessee State University, nicknamed the Tigerbelles. STAFFETTA 4 x 100 MASCHILE - RELAY 4 x 100 MEN
As in every previous edition, once again the American relay was the favorite, but much was also expected from the German team, led by 100-meter champion Armin Hary and top hurdler Martin Lauer. Already in the first round, Germany equalled the world record with 39.5. In the final, the first American relay runner Frank Budd immediately gained a good lead, but then made a mistake by making the substitution with Ray Norton out of the zone, despite Norton having slowed down drastically to try not to face sanctions. The Germans, who presented the 100-meter champion as the second relay runner, came back from the USA and were on the same line at the changeover. At the finish line, American Sime managed to cross the finish line ahead of German Lauer, who was just 10 hundredths of a second behind, breaking the world record. Unfortunately, due to the mistake in the first gearbox, the Americans were rightly disqualified and the Germans won the gold medal. Great Britain the bronze medal.

STAFFETTA 4 x 400 MASCHILE - RELAY 4 x 400 MEN
Led by Otis Davis, gold in the 400 meters, Otis Davis and Glenn Davis, gold in the 400 meters hurdles, the United States was the favorite in this race. Jack Yerman starts in the first heat for the USA, taking the lead immediately. After three changes, with the United States leading Germany by about eight meters, Otis Davis took over, followed by Germany's Carl Kaufmann, who had narrowly lost the 400m gold medal to Davis. Kaufman managed to recover a few meters but not enough to hook the American. The United States won the race by more than half a second, also breaking the world record (3:02.2). The bronze medal, surprisingly, was won by the West Indies team.
