MOSTRE ED ESIBIZIONI - SHOWS AND EXHIBITIONS

Le manifestazioni artistiche e culturali dipendevano tutte dal Comitato per l’Arte, presieduto dal Prof. Arch. Guglielmo De Angelis d’Ossat, Direttore generale delle Antichità e Belle Arti. La più importante manifestazione del settore fu la mostra "Lo Sport nella Storia e nell’Arte", allestita dall’architetto Franco Minissi al primo piano del Palazzo delle Scienze all’EUR. Diretta da Vighi (che ne curò anche il catalogo) per conto del Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione, la mostra venne inaugurata dal Presidente della Repubblica. Divisa in 28 sezioni, occupò 7.000 mq e riunì oltre 2.300 opere (di cui un migliaio originali) provenienti da più di cento musei italiani e trenta biblioteche. Rimase aperta dal 14 luglio 1960 all’8 gennaio 1961.

The artistic and cultural events all depended on the Art Committee, chaired by Prof. Arch. Guglielmo De Angelis d'Ossat, Director General of Antiquities and Fine Arts. The most important event in the sector was the exhibition "Sport in History and Art", set up by architect Franco Minissi on the first floor of the Palazzo delle Scienze in EUR. Directed by Vighi (who also edited the catalogue) on behalf of the Ministry of Education, the exhibition was inaugurated by the President of the Republic. Divided into 28 sections, it occupied 7,000 m2 and brought together over 2,300 works (of which a thousand were original) from more than one hundred Italian museums and thirty libraries. It remained open from July 14, 1960 to ’January 8, 1961

La mostra ha rappresentato un vasto ciclo storico, dal periodo pre-ellenico a quello etrusco e romano. Un periodo superiore a 30 secoli. In questa mostra sono stati riproposti opere raffiguranti atleti che negli stadi lottavano per una vittoria e per la supremazia. Queste opere d'arte dimostrarono che l'arte può trovare in un atleta un modello di perfezione e di ispirazione per un capolavoro e che ogni sport può scatenare l'ispirazione di un artista. Oltre al catalogo il Comitato Organizzatore dei Giochi pubblicò un elegante volume che raccoglieva 350 delle opere esposte alla mostra. Giulio Andreotti, quale presidente del Comitato, ne scrisse la Prefazione.

The exhibition represented a vast historical cycle, from the pre-Hellenic to the Etruscan and Roman periods. A period of more than 30 centuries. This exhibition featured works depicting athletes fighting for victory and supremacy in stadiums. These artworks demonstrated that art can find in an athlete a model of perfection and inspiration for a masterpiece and that every sport can unleash an artist's inspiration. In addition to the catalogue, the Organising Committee of the Games published an elegant volume that collected 350 of the works exhibited at the exhibition. Giulio Andreotti, as president of the Committee, wrote the Preface to it.

Questo evento ebbe un corollario in una mostra "Sport e impianti sportivi nella Campania antica" allestita al Museo Nazionale di Napoli, con relativo catalogo presentato da Amedeo Maiuri.

This event had a corollary in an exhibition "Sport and sports facilities in ancient Campania" set up at the National Museum of Naples, with a catalogue presented by Amedeo Maiuri.

Oltre alla mostra "Lo Sport nella Storia e nell’Arte", dobbiamo anche segnalare l’Esposizione di Fotografia sportiva, allestita nel corridoio perimetrale del Palazzo dello Sport all’EUR, sotto la direzione dell’avvocato Nello Ciampi. Da agosto a settembre il pubblico poté ammirare 332 foto in bianco e nero e 53 a colori, tutte in formato 30 x 40 cm, montate su supporti con eleganti cornici metalliche e protezione in vetro. Furono sistemate a due a due su pannelli raggruppati per nazioni. Giulio Onesti, presidente del CONI e del Comitato Esecutivo della XVII Olimpiade, firmò la Presentazione del catalogo.

In addition to the exhibition "Sport in History and Art," we must also highlight the Sports Photography Exhibition, set up in the perimeter corridor of the Palazzo dello Sport in EUR, under the direction of lawyer Nello Ciampi. From August to September, the public was able to admire 332 black and white and 53 color photos, all in 30 x 40 cm format, mounted on supports with elegant metal frames and glass protection. They were arranged in pairs on panels grouped by nations. Giulio Onesti, president of CONI and the Executive Committee of the XVII Olympiad, signed the Presentation of the catalogue.
