Il Lago Albano, sulle cui acque si specchia la cittadina di Castelgandolfo, fu prescelto dalla Commissione Esecutiva del C.O.N.I. su parere favorevole del Ministro dei Lavori Pubblici, per lo svolgimento delle gare di canottaggio e di canoa. D'altra parte fin dal 1903 molte competizioni remiere assai impegnative, dai Campionati Italiani ai Campionati Europei, furono disputate su questo caratteristico specchio d'acqua, nato nel cratere di un antichissimo vulcano.
Lake Albano, whose waters reflect the town of Castelgandolfo, was chosen by the CONI Executive Commission with the favorable opinion of the Minister of Public Works, for the rowing and canoeing competitions. On the other hand, since 1903, many very challenging rowing competitions, from the Italian Championships to the European Championships, have been held on this characteristic body of water, born in the crater of an ancient volcano.
Anche in questo sito furono realizzate una serie di opere che vanno dalla rete stradale intorno al lago ed alla comunicazione con Roma, alle costruzioni atte ad ospitare le imbarcazioni e gli atleti, oltre che il pubblico.
A series of works were also carried out on this site, ranging from the road network around the lake and communication with Rome, to the buildings designed to accommodate boats and athletes, as well as the public.
Il campo di regata di Castel Gandolfo, sul lago di Albano, venne aperto ufficialmente il 21 agosto 1960, quattro giorni prima dell'inaugurazione dei giochi. Le gare di Canoa e Canottaggio si svolsero tra il 26 agosto ed il 2 settembre.
The regatta course in Castel Gandolfo, on Lake Albano, was officially opened on 21 August 1960, four days before the opening of the Games. The Canoeing and Rowing competitions took place between 26 August and 2 September.
